Business:  Issue materiality is largely focused on responsible capital allocation and the management of the risks inherent in the underlying holdings. 

Environment: Most of these holding companies have a relatively low exposure to environmental issues, but our analysis scrutinises for possible risks in the underlying holdings. 

Society: Fiduciary responsibility and fair treatment of customers amongst highest weighted issues:

  • Introduction of the two-pot retirement fund mechanism

  • Protection of data and personal information

  • Financial crime and money laundering

  • Cybersecurity

  • Sourcing and retention of top talent

Governance: Materiality largely stable from previous years, though changes in leadership have an impact on competence, depth and succession planning. Analysis includes scrutiny of corporate action, such as unbundlings.
