IT SERVICES

INDUSTRY EXPOSURES

This sector comprises four listed businesses in the IT Services sector:

Datatec

Under the leadership of its CEO, Datatec has made a significant stride in expanding its global presence by acquiring Rebura, known for its expertise as an AWS consulting partner and solution provider, fortifying its cloud dominance. While hardware sales have suffered because of Covid-19 and the war in Europe, there are signs that such challenges are trending lower.

EOH

Clients started blacklisting EOH in late 2017, threatening its existence, after it was involved in state capture, corruption scandals and contracting irregularities. Over the last five years, Stephen Van Coller, the replacement CEO, has successfully led the EOH Group through a complete restructure and turnaround with a focus on saving jobs, deleveraging the balance sheet and the implementation of governance systems. He retired from the board in March 2024.

Bytes Technology

Spun out of Altron in 2020, with a market cap $1.93bn as of February 2024, The Bytes Group is one of the UK's leading providers of IT software offerings and solutions, with a focus on cloud and security products, benefiting from the market’s appetite for digital transformation, hybrid data centres, and remote working solutions.

Karooooo

With a market cap of R15bn, Karooooo is a Singapore-based provider of an on-the-ground, software-as-a-service platform providing real-time data analytics to the transport and logistics sectors. Zak Calisto, the founder, controls the majority of the combined voting power of its outstanding ordinary shares and is able to nominate a majority of directors for election to its board.

As South Africa grapples with high crime rates, including car theft, hijackings, and robberies, wholly owned Cartrack has a strong market in vehicle tracking and security.

The market for SaaS fleet management solutions is highly fragmented and competitive, and the industry is characterized by rapid technological change, frequent introductions of new applications, standards and advancement of mobile handsets, advanced driver-assistance systems, and workflow management software.
